Creating an exceptional corporate campus

Campus-style workplaces are now increasingly common.

At their best, they are places with visible, vibrant expressions of culture and brand, and they create a solid base for expansion.

But those same elements that work during boom times can become disadvantages during economic downturns.

DESIGNING FOR THE UPS AND THE DOWNS

Can we identify new frameworks and new principles for corporate environments that could accentuate the positive forces and withstand the negative ones?

The overarching benefit of a campus arrangement, from which all other benefits stem, is the potential for connectivity.

THE SIX-DIMENSIONAL OFFICE

Our Creating Exceptional Places’ framework identifies six dimensions of successful places – applicable at every scale. These dimensions are:

  • Multi-connected
  • Co-operative
  • Super-concentrated
  • Restorative
  • Distinctive, and
  • Adaptive.

Distance matters: We are 4 times as likely to communicate regularly with someone who sits 2m away as we are with someone who sits twenty meters away.
